Not A Mom Buggy: The Hennessey HPE1000 Dodge Durango Hellcat Is A Beastly Family Hauler

Not A Mom Buggy: The Hennessey HPE1000 Dodge Durango Hellcat Is A Beastly Family Hauler

(Words by Tom Lohnes) – Do you have four kids, a fat bank account, and great patience? Well, we might just have the car for you: The Hennessey HPE1000 Dodge Durango Hellcat.

Yes, you can now buy a $170,000 SUV with 1,000 horsepower. Packing the tried-and-true 6.2-liter Hellcat V8 that comes standard with a mere 707 horsepower, far less than anyone ever would want in a 6-seat SUV that can tow 9,500 pounds. What’s different besides the 1,000 horsepower?

Well, there’s upgraded suspension, a beefed-up transmission (thank god), and some special suede Hennesey Branded Seats. I don’t quite know why there isn’t an HPE1200 Durango, because there was a 1,200-horsepower model on the mechanically identical Jeep Track hawk. Hennessey tested 0-100 in the Durango with 6 people in the car, and it clocked a respectable 6.3 seconds, the same time as the Ferrari Enzo. Kind of good for a 3-ton SUV.

On the downside of the Hennessey Durango, or any Hennessey vehicle out there, is the wait time. There have been some cases of more than a year wait times on Mustangs, and even longer on other cars. But, if you want a 4-figure horsepower number in your family vehicle, John Hennessey has you covered.
