We’re gearheads and car people first and foremost…if we didn’t have the automotive addiction that everyone who stops by BangShift shares, we wouldn’t be doing this job, now would we? Does it have an engine and can it be fun? We’re always down for that, regardless of what it is. It could be Moped Night with fifty-cent beer until 10 p.m. and Brian would be on the mic, Chad would be livestreaming from his phone, and I’d be somewhere mid-pack getting my shins kicked in by some hipster. That’s just who we are. But a thought: most of the places we go and the events we cover, at most there are two things going on at any one time, and one of them is a car show. We go to some massive events, and outside of LS Fest and the Car Craft Summer Nats that were in Kentucky for a couple of years, everything else is a race and a show, usually for a weekend, and then it’s off to the next venue.
You know what? We might be car people, but we’re in the entertainment business. Not saying a drag race can’t be entertainment, far from it, but shouldn’t there be…oh, I don’t know…more? What do you do when the track gets oiled down? We sit and wait. What happens when there’s a gap between rounds? You sit and wait while I do the equivalent of “Play me off, Johnny!” on the camera and talk about whatever comes to mind. But can there be more? Should there be more?
Kyle and the 1320Video crew spent a couple of weeks in England checking out the action at Santa Pod. A former U.S. air base turned permament drag racing setup, the former RAF Podington base is drag-racing Mecca in the U.K. If you want a speed fix in the land of royalty and afternoon tea, this is it. And they know how to throw down…we’ve known this for years. But now you’ll get to go on a tour of the facility and see what they saw, from the tower taking a beating with the pulses of the jet cars to car soccer like you’ve seen on other U.K. car programs.
We have to get out there. Absolutely have to.
WAKE UP CALL FOR THE U.S. TRACKS!
Jumped the shark. No thanks
