Think Donks Have No Business On The Track? Check Out What Happens When The Big Wheels Come Off!

Seeing a donk on a dragstrip is one of those deals where opinions are gonna fly, and the discussion is probably going to get pretty ugly pretty fast. We saw that first-hand when the footage of the Monte Carlo tearing it’s wheel lugs off before popping the back end sky-high ran…the comments section was full of bile. But here’s the deal: it isn’t just about the wheels. That’s just style points. Plenty of these machines from the South have the guts to play at the dragstrip. Prochargers and blowers aren’t that uncommon. When the typical car is a big-boy Chevy, power is the name of the game…grunt is needed to move a car that big.

But what happens when the big wheels come off and what most people would call “proper” rolling stock gets bolted on for dragstrip duty? It’s easy to call out a car when you don’t like what you are seeing, but are you absolutely certain that you know what you are up against? There are some good old Southern boys down in Georgia that have a thing or two that they can show you…

It proves the big rims look stupid and and do not perform. With “normal” wheels and tires, these cars are pretty cool.

Just like with the stance and jdm crowd, may not be my taste, but I can respect a good build when I see it. Many of those donks are really nicely done cars, and being from Tennessee, I’ve seen several up close. An argument I’ve used to defend them before is “who else is doing anything with these cars?” The cars most commonly ‘donked’ are ones that no one else is restoring, making fast, or pouring there heart and soul into, as well as their bank account. In my eyes, those guys are saving cars that otherwise would be junked or parted out for more desirable models.

I’ve seen some nice “donks” for sale and the price is sometimes right. Just change the interior on them, ditch the lift kit and you have a really clean car.

There\’s nothing like a old school dunk that can make an new school look like junk.

Run a Google on Kut Da Check Racing…. the original owner of the blue/gold pro-charged donk (last in the video) passed away, but he was cleaning up the streets of Atlanta for years prior to his demise.

It was a bad mother fucker for sure.

There is a new owner (put the gold 28’s on it) but they dont bring it around bearly as much…

First off donks are considered 73 74 75 chevy impala or caprice classic, I don\’t understand the controversies over the rims on the track, respect My speed, no one is triping over the Euro epidemic. #tampachevyrider #81boxchevylife
