RacingJunk: A Hemi, A Stick, No Radio, and No Heater – This 1966 Belvedere Is All Muscle And No Fluff

Sometimes you don’t want anything to get in the way between you and your car, right? Clearly that’s what the guy selling this 1966 Belvedere thought when he had it built the way he wanted it. Starting with a mundane, Arizona small-block car, the owner had the radio and heater stripped out, had the rear axle replaced with a Dana 60, had the small block swapped out for a 472ci hemi engine, and had the factory automatic ditched fro a Hurst shifter, a clutch pedal, and a manual box.

After that it was mile-deep looking black paint and polish for days to get that shine that only really high quality black can provide. After that? It has been driving, enjoying, and wowing the cruise night set with the beastly hammer of a hot rod.

When it comes right down to it for us, there is a hierarchy of hemi cars. The E-bodies get lots of attention and stuff because of how rare and valuable they are but we dig the earlier, bigger, more square cars. Give us those formative muscle car year machines, especially the Satellites and Belvederes of the world, the ones you could get away with beating up on people with before they figured out what you were brining to the party.

This is a really nice car with power for days and the right number of pedals under the dash. Someone’s going to love this thing.

It starts snd runs. No problem. Wasn\’t meant to be s tribute. Its a classy street machine. Battery could have gone in the trunk for additional traction purposes. No matter.
