The Mustang II is one of the most maligned cars to ever come out of Detroit. I think history is starting to take a slightly softer look at the machine that actually was “the right Mustang for the time” because it was a product that people could justify buying even if it was a weak kneeed and low quality version of the car that had been such a smash hit a decade earlier. There are versions of the Mustang II we like. The pro stock Ford of the middle 1970s are cool as all get out and the Mustang II funny car body stands as one of our favorites from that era as well, but neither of those things are as cool as the car as you will see below.
This 1974 Mustang II is packing a blown small block, a roll cage, an automatic transmission with lightning rods shifter, 9-inch Ford rear end, and all kinds of tire in the back. The stance is awesome and the small wing hanging off the back of the car is the icing on the cake. We dig the fact that the exterior is factory fresh with the trim, rear quarter window louvers, and a dark green paint job that really goes counter to what most pro street cars did back in the day with the wild and bright colors that marked this style of build.
The seller does not give a lot of detail on stuff (like the engine size, although he does tell us that it is a stroker), horsepower output, any performance numbers, or stuff like that. The whole car is really cool and we’d love to both cruise it and hit the strip to see what the stroker Ford was capable of doing and especially because we could pretend to be Bob Glidden and that those Lightning Rods were actually Lenco levers we were pulling.
Truth be told, we’d ditch the wheelie bars and that’s about the only thing we would change. What about you?

Get rid of that hideously out of proportion blower and carbs and fit some nicely detailed turbos instead.
Perfection perfected!
Brian- Is that one of those trick shifters from GM in the mid 80’s? Cool Beans!
It’s a Hurst Lightning Rod shifter, but yes, GM did use those in stuff like the Hurst/Olds.
I like it.
That shade of green is just fantastic, too.
Mustang IIs always look nasty in drag trim. I especially like them in vintage Pro Stock guise.
Not bad at all for a Mustang II!
I like it, but would surely ditch the big blower( sits too far forward and looks out of proportion) A 70’s Pro Stock hood scoop would look awesome though.
That’s actually pretty damn cool!
Sharp looking Stang but does that thing have T-tops?
