This Aussie Mustang Uses A 3.8L Inline Six Ford To Run 8s At Over 170mph!

There’s nothing better in hot rodding than taking the normal, mundane thing and making it into a holy terror. That is the case with this Australian Mustang which runs eight second elapsed times at over 170mph using a turbocharged version of an inline six Ford engine that is found in taxi cabs, mom wagons, and commuter drone mobiles all over the country. The engine has been destroked to 3.8L and force fed with some 40psi of boost from a big single turbo. Weighing in at 3590lbs, using a PowerGlide two speed transmission, and packing a beautifully integrated cage into the full interior, this car is awesome and it sounds really interesting as opposed to the V8 machines we are used to featuring here.

The engine makes a reported 1,400hp and while the Mustang is not using all of it yet, the eight second zone with a license plate is rare air for any car on any continent, not just Australia. The fit and finish on the machine is pretty awesome as evidenced by the engine bay that gives the impression that the engine is hovering in it and the glimpses we get of the interior that look too nice for our asses to ever sit in.

Hot rodding is at its best when people take the everyday and make it unique and exceptional. Yes, he could have put a turbocharged Cleveland engine in it or a turbocharged Windsor small block in it, but way is totally cool and different. We applaud anyone who does stuff like this, especially when the results are mind bending in the fast and clean departments.

If we ever get to Heathcote Park, we want a ride!
