Coming this Saturday to historic Lancaster Dragway is a late fall spectacular so freakin’ good I’m going to be there myself! That’s right, it is Pro Mod-A-Palooza at Lancaster Dragway in Lancaster, NY (just outside of Buffalo) and just going by that name we’re selling this sucker way short. Outside of the near 20 pro mods that will be competing, the small tire, wall-to-wall Buffalo street outlaws classes will be contested (with Drag Week’s own Stretchy Truck in the mix!) along with track championship finale races in top, modified, quick 16, street, and the motorcycle/sled category. There will also be a champions runoff where the winners of their respective classes will compete for more than 5,000 in prizes put up by the K100/Bauer racing folks.
The pro mod field will be 8-cars. There are about 20 on the sheet showing up with a legit chance to punch their way in. This is going to be a brawl. You want some names? Mike Stawicki, Matt Vinson, JR Ward, Dan and John Flanigan, and the list goes on and on and on.
If you are a fan of small tire action, you’ll have your fill of that as well because the Buffalo Street Outlaws will be running in two classes. There will be a class for street registered, insured and driven cars and a class for Saturday night special style cars that get used under the cover of darkness and hidden until the next challenge arises. Outlaw and Real Street as the class names and they are going to be big fun for sure.
If you live in the New England area, the drag racing season is on its last gasps. I can PROMISE YOU that this is the last big one of the year and it is at a killer little track that opened in 1959 and has turned out some the best racers in the country. The pro mod field is stacked with talent. Names that have won on the PDRA circuit will be lined up to long time NHRA runners and others that specialize their racing to the New York region. It is going to be a cool, fast as hell day and if you are sitting at home waxing your car and staring out the window, you fail. I’m as excited to be heading to Lancaster as I have been for any drag race in the last few years. It is about local pride for these racers, it is about one last effort for the season, and it is about putting on a show at this track that has served as the backbone of the sport for Buffalo racers since Eisenhower was the freaking president.
