This Turbocharged, Ratty Looking 1979 Dodge D150 Is Flipping Awesome – Sucker Maker!

This Turbocharged, Ratty Looking 1979 Dodge D150 Is Flipping Awesome – Sucker Maker!

When it comes right down to it, we make a habit of embracing ugly around here. That’s not because have have any sort of ill will toward beautiful, professionally built stuff, but there’s just something endearing about a truck like this 1979 Dodge D150 that we love. Maybe it is because lots of people would rightly miss the fact that it has a 600hp turbocharged 5.9L Magnum engine under the hood or maybe because people have likely sneered when they saw the primer flaking off different areas but there’s just an element to things like this that we enjoy.

Never allowing “perfect” to get in the way of done may be part of it. We’re guessing that the guy who owns this truck would love to have some sort of a double bad ass paint job on it but the reality is that he wanted to go enjoy his handiwork more or save his money for horsepower more than he wanted something that would get people spun up at a car show.

Outside of the awesome engine, built 727 trans, and locker equipped 9.25 rear axle theres the stance that this truck has. Sitting on steel cop car wheels that have been spray bombed black it hugs the ground, tucks tire, and to the uninitiated may just look like a crummy old truck with tires springs. To us it looks aggressive as hell and ready for battle at at the notice of a moment.

The seller has not raced it yet but he’s thinking 600hp. We don’t care if he’s off by 100. THIS is where it’s at!

Because we expect this thing to sell instantly, here’s the text from the ad –

For sale is my ” Dirty Dodge ” 1979 Dodge D150 short bed truck. There is a ton of performance mods done to this truck so I’m just going to list the main ones.

2002 360 (5.9)magnum engine, Garrett GT42 turbo currently on 15lbs of boost. Blow through carb, Snow water meth injection, walbro 255 fuel pump, built 727 torqueflight trans, 9.25 rearend with a Richmond locker. Brand new rear tires. And the list goes on. Have yet to run it on the strip so I can’t give you an accurate 1/8 mile time and have not dynoed it. But for what the combo is and what my ass-ometer says, its between 500-600 HP and could easily be increased with an ignition system and good dyno tune to get it at max HP.

This truck isn’t perfect body wise, but that’s the point. It’s a sleeper and I’ve had lots of fun surprising everyone I pull next to and run. Running wise its great, needs nothing runs and drives incredibly. Very reliable truck road ready. Cragers do not come on the truck, it has the black cop wheels as pictured in the last 2 pictures. The truck use to have bucket seats in it, which I still have. But I took them out and put the factory bench seat back in it. Only reason I’m selling my truck is so I can finish building my big block for my other toy.

I’m selling the truck for $6,000 cash only. Not excepting trades. Needing cash for other project. Please no tire kickers, no joy rides. Serious inquiries only! Name is Travis, contact me by call or text 8284for67six3ate

I’ll just get this out there right now; sleepers don’t usually have a 5″ exhaust dump coming out the middle of the front fender. Just sayin’…

Not exactly a perfect example of a \”sleeper\”…but I don\’t think any of us would expect 600 or even 500 or 400 real HP to come from this unit pulling up next to it on the street. If it really has that much power, it\’s going to embarrass a lot of people. That in itself gives it some sleeper status to me.

The best part is the truck is over 35 years old, its a classic! Not a bad price but definitely needs an exhaust upgrade. I would also paint it red again. Why not Arrest Me Red!

My ’78 Malibu 4dr w/faded factory split pea green paint looks like a sleeper too….until I fire up the BBC that’s in it. It’s gonna be my summer toy and run the street tire class

One closed mind in every crowd, right Gary Smrtic?? I like & have owned all brands of vehicles. I never put my mouth on that Dodge, other than to agree that it is no more of a sleeper than my Malibu. My car is new this year, and I’m sure it will have some bugs. I usually build something new every few years, but I’m slowing down in my old age. With a tried and true combo of a 454, a bullet-proof, aftermarket cased, Powerglide, and a 9 inch rear with 4:11 gear. There’s not much to break but a ‘haters’ heart. I also bought the ’67 RS new and have never had anything replace but the standard stuff, so I guess you can hate that, too…..

The worst thing about this rig is it on the wrong side of the country for me to feasibly purchase it. It wouldn\’t be faster than what I already have, but I also wouldn\’t feel bad beating on it as a DD.
