While lots of US drag racing fans were getting their fill of the sport at one of the hundreds of strips across the country, the eyes of the European drag racing world were transfixed on Santa Pod Raceway last weekend as the FIA season finals took place. As you will see in the superb video below, it was a pretty chilly affair with the majority of people bundled up like it was a late fall weekend. While it doesn’t make for the best beer drinking weather (OK who are we kidding on that….) it did make for a great performance weekend with many records reset and lots of fast runs at the historic track.

As I have written about half a zillion times over the years here, we have the utmost respect for our straight line loving’ brothers and sisters in Europe. A pal recently visited Tierp Arena in Sweden and reported back that the track, the people, and the passion he observed (and the cars!) were all second to none and that is what makes it all really cool.

In the video you will see everything from nitro funny cars and top fuel dragsters to quick bikes, wild door slammers, and even some air show like stunts performed in the sky over the track. Members of the FIA drag racing board were in the USA this summer and they hung out at the Denver NHRA national event for meetings and to take in the show. It is always neat when the international drag racing community spends time together because to be very honest there is a lot that we all can learn from each other.

This video is supremely cool, very well produced, and worth the watch. Here’s what the FIA finals looked like last weekend at “The Pod”.

I was there Saturday sat in the grandstand. The day started with light rain, track was dried and racing started and stayed dry all day. It was really cold but the track action was better than the action in any of my films. Great to see one of my mates (Mike Lacey in Metamorphis and Dan Williams Pro Et) in the film

This weekend was a superb example of all round entertainment , the track action was second to none, from the fuel cars onwards, but not down, the event was truly great,I’ve been to NHRA national events and y’know what this meeting can hold it’s head up high.Super Street Bike was superb,Pro ET,Super Pro ET,and Street Eliminator just mindblowing.A special mention must go to the boys and girls of the track crew who as usual worked their socks off to keep things moving at an unprecedented pace, ohhhh my God they did well.
