There is always one car at LS Fest that catches me off-guard. My first year, it was the ten-second Mitsubishi Eclipse, and last year it was a tie between the 1970 Challenger that was taking on all comers on the autocross course and the 2006 or 2007 Charger sitting out in the show area. This year, the winner by a mile was the “Trollvo”, an early Eighties Volvo 240-ish wagon with a turbocharged 5.3L and a 4L80E, and enough stickers that you’d swear it was some punk kid owning it. The “Bye, Felicia!” sticker on the tailgate window was like salt in a wound to anyone who watched the big silver brick pull away from them. With an exhaust pipe that looked like it was inspired by a Baja Bug and one of the softest launches I can recollect ever seeing out of an 11-second car of any make, model or powertrain, the Trollvo can completely lure an unsuspecting victim in like a praying mantis: it stays quiet and slow, but once the car gets moving, it freight-trains the upper end of the track. Imagine this brick with some gears!
I love these little bricks especially with v8 power !
The masterminds behind trollvo are working on a solution for the geriatric launches. Stay tuned!
