(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – I am not sure why we shot most of the launches from behind the cars. Maybe we’re more comfortable shooting in that position at this track. It could be the lighting as this event is in the evening we often get harsh light shooting back toward the car. Whatever the reason that is the view in the majority of our shots from this event. Lots of tire-wrinkling and wheels-up action in here. We totally dug the ‘White Lightnin’ straight-axle Falcon.
The lower stance and snorkel scoop break with the modern-day interpretation of how these should look. Around here we’ve always liked Vegas and Pintos and when we visit Thornhill or US-60 we are not left wanting. The satin black more-door Disco Nova had great stance working on its sleeper look. We never tire of seeing Wade Craig’s 455-poncho-powered ’57 Pontiac gasser moving its bulk down track. I’m a big fan of ’68-’69 Ford Torino coupes. It goes back to a car I was around as a kid and something about it just speaks to me. We all seem to have that sort of thing to cars we saw as kids that gave some of our gearhead inspiration. The example pictured here was super nice.
Enjoy.
