(Words by Bad Brad Klaassen, shots by Patrick Red Williams and Jennifer Durrant Williams, Red’s Drag Racing Photos and Ricky Ritchie, FTS Photos) –The fall edition of one of the biggest 1/8th mile door slammer races in the country went down again at Tulsa Raceway Park. This twice a year annual event has been a longtime fan favorite every year with great attendances. I mean what’s not to love about a race with free gate admission and only $10 a car load to park. Bring a Greyhound bus with sixty of your best drag racing crazed friends and the cost is still only ten George Washington’s! What’s not to love about that?
And with Oklahoma’s bipolar weather anytime of the year all outdoor events are always a crap shoot unless it’s the dead of summer. So, as you may well have already surmised the rains came, it stayed cloudy and dreary all day Friday so all activities were rolled forward to a one day race on Saturday. There was a constant barrage of pro mods, radial tire cars, big tire cars and gassers assaulting the track all day and night and well into early Sunday morning to complete the event. And that’s what the crack staff at TRP did. Those guys and gals are the best!
So with the stands packed to the gills as usual, tire smoke and alcohol fumes were wafting through the air and the racing action was hot and heavy from start to finish. Major players from the PDRA were in the house representing the Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous and Pro Boost classes as well as big hitters from the Drag Radial World along with local favorites in the gasser and bracket classes to complete another fantastic show! Once again TRP’s Fall edition of the Throwdown in T-Town was a huge success.
So, go check out the fantastic shots of some of Tulsa Raceway Park’s finest shooters and soak in the action just like I did. You’ll be glad you did, trust me.
See you at the drags. -Bad Brad
