TX2K 2016 Coverage: Hot And Heavy Action From Royal Purple Raceway – Awesome Cars

(Photos by Charles Wickam) – TX2K is one of those events that has taken on life of its own and it did so in a viral fashion. An interesting hybrid that has elements of traditional drag racing and lots of elements of the “outlaw” culture that is portrayed in places like the Street Outlaws television show, it draws an amazingly quick and fast as well as an amazingly diverse group of cars and participants. From hot rodded classic Dodge trucks with diesel engines to a gaggle of Nissan GT-Rs, if it is fast or has been made to be fast there is an excellent chance that you are going to see it at TX2K.

Charles Wickam was our man on the scene of the walls of Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas and he was snapping away like a madman at the event. As you’ll see, this is a whole scene and it has really grown and grown with the generation of guys who are good with social media. This was not an event that grew the traditional way but instead it was an event that gained a following virally through the videos and social media posts of participants. Call outs, challenges, and outright insults have often flown before this race as shops that tune and build similar cars vie for everyone’s attention.

Bottom line? Charles was there, he said it was cool, and we dig the fact it was happening on the track.
