US60 Dragway Coverage – Check Out These Images of Gassers!

US60 Dragway Coverage – Check Out These Images of Gassers!

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – Okay, so non-straight-axle cars not otherwise classed run together.  Anyone in the car show can also make passes.  This is made up of some of that and older stuff rolling in for T-n-T and brackets.  This track attracts a lot of older body styles.  Mopars are very popular around the Bluegrass state and surrounding areas.  We were walking the pits when we saw a large chunk of steel being loaded into the trunk of the burgundy Duster and it appears that did the trick.  We don’t yet know the history on the blue Duster, but we have seen some old photos of it so next chance we get…..more info and perhaps photos will be gathered.  Randy Gore Sr. is always good for one banzai, solo pass in his injected small-block, shorty ’57 and he did not disappoint with at least three wheelies on this pass with at least one of them in the opposite lane.  He definitely knows what putting on a show is all about.

The red Chevy truck on street tires has a blower hidden under the hood which made for some good burnouts, but not for finding any grip.  Two, black third-gen Novas were making laps and running quick with hard launches pass after pass.  Lastly, Sheady Goodman’s bright yellow ’66 Valiant (known as ‘Yolonda’) is a very nice ride.  He and his dad race a lot and they just got a ’65 Coronet  grudge car (known as ‘Beetryce’) finished and turning wheels in anger.  We hope to capture it and more at another event soon.  Like Mopar…?  More of that coming.

Enjoy.
