It was a hurried program but Jeff Lutz and crew accomplished a major goal this week at Orlando Speed World Dragway and that was wresting the title of quickest V10 Viper on Earth from the hands of Sal Patel. Driving the flat black Dodge owned by Shawn Beard, Lutz crossed the finish line clocks in a time of 6.78 seconds and a speed of 211mph. Reportedly he was shifting the big V10 at 7500 RPMs as the twin turbos force fed the engine the whole way down the strip. The one thing we’re totally loving out of this whole deal is the noise. It is a far more angry and racy sounding situation than the normal weird V10 moan that most Vipers emit. The fact that this one is making like 3,000hp probably does not hurt.
After getting the car at the Lutz shop and working on the tuning angle, the decision was made the run for the proverbial gold this week. Jeff and crew hustled out of their Pennsylvania shop and beat the winter storm, arriving to Florida and setting straight in on getting the car down the track. After incremental steps, they hammered the record on the first full pull the car made all week long.
According to Evan Smith’s story on HotRod.com, 32psi of boost was the magic number and noted tuner Shane Tecklenburg was the driving force on the tuning end of the car. Obviously it all worked out well and we’re thinking that this thing will be in the 60s before long. After all, this was the first full pass that the screaming Viper had ever made!
Drag Week veteran Eddie Miller was at the track with the guys and he shot the video that you will see below. We love watching thing thing spit fire and then leave like it was launched out of a cannon about a second later. Great video and this is one mean car!
