Vintage NHRA Coverage: Watch The Pros and Pro Comp From The 1980s Fall Nationals

Two weeks ago, the NHRA Fall Nationals were held in Texas. It was an awesome race and one that has been held in a few spots over the years.  This video was taken at the NHRA Fall Nationals long before the Texas Motorplex existed when the race was contested in the Pacific Northwest at Pacific Raceway in Kent, Washington. According to the description on this video, the whole thing was put together as a reel to shop to the recently formed and recently live ESPN Network that’s still based in Bristol, Connecticut. That’s the same ESPN that the NHRA left in order to have their programming shown on Fox Sports 1 and the Fox broadcast network.

We dig this video because it is pretty simple, unpretentious, and straight forward. It is the cars, it is the scene, it is Steve Evans making the call, and there are about two cameras handling the whole thing. The other reason we dig the video is because we get to see the oft forgotten about Pro Comp class which held names like Dale Armstrong in it, lots of nitro action, and pro stock action as well.

1980 was the year of my birth. It is kind of interesting to see what the Fall Nationals looked like then and what they look like and I stand in the tower and call the action at them today. Press play below, you are going to love it.
