Want A Historic Funny Car Body? This Historic 1971 Camaro Body Is For Sale…To The Right Person – Check It Out

It is always cool when a funny car body with history comes up for sale, especially when it is a neat one like a former Bob Sullivan Pandemonium car. For you drag racing history geeks out there you know that Sullivan ran a bunch of cars over the years from the wild Barracuda to topless Corvettes, and other more traditional floppers like this one. This Camaro body’s usage was the result of an accident with another car which rendered that body unusable after one pass. Needing to make match race dates and more importantly make a living, Sullivan went ahead and plopped this body on his chassis and hit the road. By the history given in the ad, this was Pandemonium IX and it sounds as though this car was the last in the series for Sullivan. It is incredible to see the shape of the thing, especially the tinwork on the inside. It may never have been mounted again after Sullivan used it. The car does not come with the chassis and the seller has it and used it for the restoration of an earlier car in the series but he will provide the blueprints and plans to make a replica which will look like the original Fletcher and keep the car as accurate looking for the period when it was raced. Now for the interesting part.

This seller is taking an interesting position when advertising the car in basically telling anyone who has any ideas about trying to race the car to pound sand. He wants this car to become a display pieces, maybe a cackler, or something of that nature. He makes some statements that initially counter that sentiment but at the end of the ad he kind of lays it all out there with regard to who will be able to buy this car. Here’s why we were confused. He starts out saying stuff like this:

This car needs a proper restoration. ya, ya, ya I know it doesn’t have the chassis. But I do have the blue prints of the Fletcher I recreated for the VII. It can all be replicated again. The purest will puke, and the so-called experts will bawl. They can go build their models, read their magazines, and pound sand for all I care. I guess everyone needs a hobby.

….and ends up saying stuff like this:

So go buy a new body, thunder down the track, and throw yourself over the wall, up-side-down, on fire, facing the wrong direction…. Good Luck! This piece of history needs a home as a project with someone that has an understanding of what it is, and the capability to complete it.

Doesn’t is sound like he’s being the guy that he’s railing against in the initial statement? We get that this is a cool old body but it isn’t like it is one of the most historic funny cars ever or some piece of drag racing history that would leave a sucking vortex of lost history if it ever got dinged up. The man is passionate about the body, that’s for sure. What do you think?

Hmm. He didn’t take the trouble to learn to spell words but wants his buyer to take the trouble to totally re-create this car, his way. Sounds like what he needs is an agreeable partner not a buyer. That said, he sounds like an interesting guy and did give his phone number…he should be getting some interesting calls, too. That would be a great retirement project for someone.

Hmm spelling? why, I sphelle juste fine!. But thanks for the constructive shout out. My comments were take a bit out of context in the article, I was referring to the “new” bodies that are available for purchase,(not the Sullivan car), to exhibit your superior driving skills at the track. I would really like to see this car preserved. There is enough new stuff to go blow up. Thanks for the comments, Ken
