Now this is a mean little weapon! This 301ci naturally aspirated Ford small block makes 800hp at 10,000 RPM. This engine was designed and built for an NHRA competition eliminator car. The car in question was a 2,300b Ford Probe that (if I am remembering right) ran a pro stock style manual transmission with 5-forward speeds. It likely ran a gear ration akin to that in a John Deere tractor to get the motor up into the RPM region where it makes its power, which is in an area where angels sometimes fear to tread. This thing is built with the best of the best stuff and comes with everything you see except for the carbs.
Let’s be honest, this thing is a specialized weapon. This is not a street engine unless it is going into a T-bucket with a G-force in it, but if you have a light drag race car that you are wanting to run with a buzzing naturally aspirated small block, it could be the ticket and it isn’t a Chevy! The block is a 8.2-inch deck height SVO piece that has a couple of sleeves in it, the intake was made by HRE, it has a billet Winberg crankshaft, obviously a dry sump oiling system, Carillo rods, and on and on. The neatest stuff on the engine? The heads. The heads are Yates D3 units that were made for this engine, they are not old NASCAR pieces. The story states that the started out as “blob” heads and then Tom Slawko who is a nationally known cylinder head guru prepared the heads. They have titanium valves and all of the best stuff in them.
This thing is 100% bad ass and it is a unit that needs to be in a lightweight, cool, Ford race car making beautiful music for all of us to enjoy.
