Ten times the power from stock…for any car, that’s a hell of a jump. Would you like to have ten times the power in your daily ride? Hell, most of us would be happy just doubling the power rating in our cars! It’s a lofty goal, but pick the right car (read: aim low early) and suddenly exponentially increasing the horsepower and torque figures for the car suddenly become an obtainable dream. Moog and Marty from Mighty Car Mods decided to take this challenge on directly, and in doing so wind up with a canary yellow Volkswagen Beetle. See what we mean by setting the bar low?
After base-lining the Beetle to determine the final horsepower goal (and finding out that the 1600cc boxer only had about thirty asthmatic horses left in the stable), the guys get to work jamming in a heavily built Subaru Forester turbocharged 2.5L boxer into the Bug, with the one limiting factor being that the car had to look stock in the end…none of that Baja Bug, missing engine cover nonsense. This is a full episode, that shows everything from the purchase to dragstrip testing. 317 horsepower works nicely, but let’s think about this for a second: 300 horsepower out of a street-driven Volkswagen Beetle? They weigh about 1800 pounds before driver…that’s a hell of a power-to-weight ratio. Time to make a kill list, boys…
what an annoying pair…..
Between MCM and Roadkill, I predict the slow death of TV.
As long as “Fast & Loud” is the first against the wall.
I have always enjoyed Aircooled VWs.
So what did it run in the end?
