Boy, this is a rough one. Pro Stock racer Deric Kramer experienced one of the more violent pro stock crashes we have ever seen at Las Vegas last weekend during qualifying at the NHRA race. In a desperate attempt to save a run and punch his way into a very tough field, Kramer hung onto a run that was out of the groove and fighting him from jump street. Unfortunately his Dodge Avenger got very loose at the top end, shot across the track and went into a sickening series of smashes and rolls that left the car decimated. Kramer was able to exit the car (which was on its roof) under his own power and as best we know he came thorough the ordeal OK.
While pro stock cars normally don’t look like they are “doing much” when headed down the track or a normal run, there is very little downforce on the rear slicks which means that any change of direction can get amplified into something horrifying like you will see below. These cars are amazing precision instruments and when they’re working they are poetry in motion to watch but when things get ugly, they get ugly in a real hurry.
Once again, the health and safety of Deric Kramer were protected by the construction of his race car. That thing is torn to ribbons but Deric is OK to live and race another day.
