The Kawasaki H2R has been the hot topic on the lips of many sport bike enthusiasts since being unveiled a little while back in Germany. The supercharged engine on the Kawasaki H2R was to be rated at north of 300hp right out of the box but gearheads being who they are, as soon as a bike made it to the press it went straight to the dyno. The guys at Cycle World were the people who got the honor of strapping this machine down and the results were not a let down. 296hp at the tire is nutso and since we’re not big motorcycle enthusiasts here we’re not sure what drivetrain losses are in this situation. Does the Kawasaki H2R lose 20% between the crank and the wheel like a normal car does? You tell us.
The rider who is operating the motorcycle on the dyno makes a pair of pulls. One of them is up through all the gears and the second sounds like it is a middle or high gear romp. We could care less what gear it is in because the sounds that this motorcycle makes are nearly beyond compare. The supercharger obviously helps to amplify the exhaust note and this as brutal and angry a noise that has ever come from a street bike. Of course the noise is high pitched but it is old Formula One high pitched rather than ear splitting high pitched. You’ll have to listen to yourself and report back to us because the words do the noise no justice.
It takes a bunch for us to get excited about a motorcycle and this one is doing the trick. What a mean piece!

First- The saying is “Could not care less” I’m no english language nazi but that drive me nuts! LOL!
Second- Mother of god I may have creamed my shorts…It sounds amazing. I saw some clips on you tube with sounds of it on the track but this…this is ear-gazmic….I feel that I need this bike…and I need it now…
Reminds me of the 4into 1 no muffler V Max I used to own , people heard the bike coming and thought it was some wild small block
That thing will make sure you’re first to the scene of the accident. 300hp on a sportbike seems a little excessive.
And 1000hp in a street car isn’t?
Yeah, but sportbike owners tend to ride like total jackasses.
Kind of a generalization don’t you think. I’m MSF certified and ride like you would expect any 35 year old who knows better would ride. Don’t judge me or others who don’t want to ride over weight, overpriced rolling anachronisms (like most HDs). Also the demographic who can afford this bike is not some dumb kid, this one is for well heeled collectors and the occasional rich guy who has a track close to home.
Apologies for that. I guess I’ve just seen so many more awful sportbike riders than restrained ones, that the idea of this kind of bullet on the street is a bit frightening.
No worries. I blame the affordability of 600cc bikes these days. I got my first sportbike in high school, so I understand the stereotype. For what it’s worth I’d be afraid to ride a 300 horse bike, esp. since it cost 50k. We should have laws where you have to start with a 50cc bike then 250, then 600 ect. It would be a bit nanny state, but would make my insurance cheaper. Hell I’ll settle for mandatory helmet laws at this point.
I am 60 years old, and I want one.
I’m 61, and I want one, and hell no, Nick D., 300 HP on a street bike is not too much! I’ve been Jonesin’ for a new open class Ninja. I think the wait is over!
Im 53. Haven’t ridden in years. This thing scares th hell out of me. But it’s crazy awesome. Flames and tracers out the exhaust I can respect the total package.
that is INSANE, 8 second bike off the showroom, WOW, can not image it is insurable for the street (guess if you have the money, anything is). The fuse is so short to fast, zero to 60 in what-2 seconds or less, new world leader in power to weight–less then 2 lbs per HP– 1 1/2 or less!!!!! Oh my
