(Words and photos by Dennis Vos) – Once a year the best of the European teams gather on the “Rico Anthes Quartermile” for their joint trial of strength and this wonderful drag strip will be transformed into the ultimate dyno.
This can only mean one thing: Nitrolympx 2016 is just around the corner and will be guaranteed the most action packed event, held this summer in the center of Europe. The smell of nitro-methane mixed with burning rubber, the whining of the compressors and the cheers of the spectators will once again make Hockenheim Ring tremble on it’s foundations. This year celebrates the 31st year this event will be held at the world famous Hockenheimring and just 2 weeks after the famous German F1 Grand Prix. NitrOlympX will be in full fury from 19th till the 21st of August presenting you the best of Drag Racing Europe has to offer. Probably the best thing of all is that this event will be Broadcasted live (Saturday 20th and Sunday the 21st) in HD worldwide!!!
In five car and four motorcycle classes, important points will be divided for the FIA and FIM Championship. Also after a one year off the Pro Stock Cars will make a welcome return, fans of the fine-mechanics class of drag racing won’t be disapointed when these cars willl cross the starting lights once again. The “big cats” in the dragracing world that do not need any help of nitrous oxide, Nitro, Turbo or Blower, will be a great class to watch again at this year’s event. combine this with of Top Fuel-, the Pro Modified-, the Top Methanol dragsters and the Top Methanol Funny Cars the of FIA Senior classes in Hockenheim, you as a racing addict will be certainly pleased
Besides all the Top classes, many highly ambitious amateur classes will be at the start meaning that a total competitor field of approximately 300 participants can be expected. Exciting duels will take place for every valuable seconds which the Rico Anthes Quartermile has to offer to it’s racers. The NitrOlympX is characterized by a freely accessible paddock, a varied program and the popular Night Show being held on Saturday night (also broadcasted live). In the night show there will be a breathtaking mix of magnificent entertainment provided with plenty of action including speed, Wild Stunts, smoking tires, meter high flames and fireworks.
A nice addition to the competitor field will come from the United States this year, with no other then Ron Hopes spectacular “Rat Trap” and Randy Bradford “Topolino”, bringing you two high-class “US altereds AA / Fuel Dragster” preforming live for the first time in Germany. These vehicles will not only bring you the most exciting and most entertaining of drag racing known in history, they are also extremely fast and will offer the audience an impressive show. The complete entertainment package makes NitrOlympX an absolute highlight and a must-attend event in the calendar of every motor sports and Dragrace enthusiast.
