One of the coolest things about the nostalgia nitro funny car explosion over the last 10 years or so is that the cars have the same deeply appreciated fan base all over the world. Yes, funny cars were birthed here in America, but they were raced all over the place from Australia to the UK and across Europe as well. Knowing that, it only makes sense to think that European drag racing fans would be as head over heels for the cars as their American pals. After watching this video taken at the 2014 NitrOlympx race at the Hockenheim Ring in Germany.
The two cars here put on a fantastic show with long burnouts, a bunch of dry hops, and a pair of six second runs. While the elapsed times are not Earth shattering, the show is fantastic and that’s what the true nature of these beasts should be about. Close racing, cool cars, personality, and the show. We’d take a weekend full of runs like this over some insane dive bomb elapsed times, but that is just us. Your opinion may vary.
One last note. The Hockenhiem Ring course is literally a section of the long straight converted into a drag strip a few times a year. We’re pretty sure that traction compound either isn’t allowed or is strictly limited so these six second shots are all the more impressive. Great sounds, great looks, great show. Well done!

NHRA are you watching this? Its time to go back to your roots!
As a 40+ year fan of the Flops I would give the second up in et’s for the TOTAL SHOW–Dry hops– Back up Babes–Side by side Burn outs–Close Racing. The only thing missing is Steve Evans on the mic.
And cars that kinda look like the ones they started out as.
I hate the new funny cars because they just look like blobs with decals, cant tell one make from another. The old cars you could tell a mustang from a charger.
I’ll take nostalgia funny cars over the current funny cars, because the nostalgia cars have something that the new funny cars don’t have, and that is soul.
I would like to point out that as much as you enjoy watching these cars I have even more fun driving!!! Mine is the mustang II, and incidentally it’s an original from the 70’s not a replica so I have to treat it with care (maybe – lol!)
Wendy we are honoured here in the UK to see Timewarp down the strip
Time warp is from england and is piloted by a lady. More nostalgia floppers are being bulit over this side of the pond.
At dragstalgia the Apache firebird went a 6.4(i think), nothing to shout about, but theyre coming! 😀
The track surface was a little tricky due to the limited time the track crew have to get it from an un prepped surface (about 2 weeks) before the meeting. the Drag strip is normally part of the run off area for the circuit cars and after this event each year the rubber / traction compound is remove in case any cars going into the run off get grip and flip over. The speeds are in Kilometers per hour – unfortunately !.
Thats whats going on at mission raceway this weekend for any body in the vicinity of Vancouver BC . Nitro funny cars at night jet cars yee haa.
The modern shrinks dink funny car sucks. Even the cars of the early nineties were better, but nowhere near as cool as these. With the muscle car was hotter than ever you would think they would make the flippers look better, they need to slow them down anyway. Bring back the show.
