Watch The 1980 Drag Racing Documentary Life In The Quick Lane Right Here

We love old drag racing films around here and we know you love them too so that’s why when we found this three part film called “Life in the Quick Lane”  which was made in 1980 on the DragTimes2 YouTube channel we knew that we had to share it. The video is a wide scope look at the sport and it includes a lot of cool race footage, a lot of cool interviews with the likes of Garlits and others, and it generally captures a cool moment in time.

One of the things that you may notice is that the Christmas tree looks a little weird during the race shots. It should. The tree has five amber bulbs on it and it would until 1986 when NHRA shrunk the number of bulbs to three to move events along quicker. Over the course of the three videos you will see lots of cool cars and people. You will also see lots of cool tracks.

In 1980 drag racing was feeling the effects of the economy like the rest of the country. Things were looking up after a very rough late half of the 1970s and while it would be a few years before things were really hitting on all cylinders again hope was springing eternal. This film relates some of that attitude and along with it you get the benefit of seeing killer cars and people throughout. Good stuff!
