Watch The Most Impressive Flaming Front Wheel Drive Engine/Transaxle Failure We Have Ever Seen

Formula One fans will likely recognize the name of the Interlagos course as that is where those open wheeled wonders compete in Brazil but what they may not know is that the place doubles as a drag strip when the high strung sporty car guys are not hogging it. In this video we see what looks and sounds to be a pretty well hot rodded VW (we’d call it a Golf here in the USA) hatchback running down said strip. With a big turbo and plenty of fire shooting out of the exhaust pipe it heads down the strip. The thing doesn’t exactly rotate the Earth backwards on the hit of throttle but it seems to be pulling along pretty hard when it get down near the finish line when all hell literally breaks loose.

In an instant the car goes from pulling hard under power to looking like a 1970s vintage funny car fire complete with sparks and all kinds of flame licking out from under the car. The front wheels are locked tight so this leads us to believe that the transaxle exploded and locked up, spewing gear oil over the already molten hot exhaust and turbocharger. That lights the candle and off we go! The driver skids across the center of the track wiping out the cones and timing equipment in the process. He manages to get the car stopped before hitting the wall and our man is in no real mood to inspect the situation because he clamors our of the car the nanosecond it is stopped. It looks like the underhood area is going to be pretty charred as the fire guys fight the flames with extinguishers and it had already been going a minute or two before they got there.

We just keep thinking about being the guy in the car and literally one second you are pulling along on a pretty good run and the next you are driving for your life completely bathed in fire!
