Watch The Munsters Coach Cruise Down The Strip At The 1966 NHRA US Nationals

The Chevrolet Performance NHRA US Nationals are coming up next week and that means we’re going to be going heavy on the historical drag racing content from the most prestigious race on the planet. It won’t all be about competition, though. Nope, some of it will be cool stuff like the video below that shows some great action footage from the 1966 running of the event. While the record will show that Mike Snivley beat Danny Ongais for the top fuel title, it won’t show one of the more memorable “passes” of the event.

In 1966 the Munsters were huge and the show was very interesting in the fact that it played the pop culture game perfectly. Hot rodding and drag racing were featured prominently on the program (they filmed an episode at Lions!) and George Barris became famous for building some of the machines that ferried the famously wacky family around. The Munster Koach was among the most famous cars in the world in 1966 and that’s why it was at the US Nationals. The video below shows the car making a semi-gingerly run down the race track with a driver who doesn’t seem all that into the whole scene.

While the Munster part of this video is cool, the rest of the video is really where it’s at. Gassers, dragsters, stockers, and more are shown in their glory and we think that you will love every second of the whole scene. We’ll be talking about a lot of stuff over the next week or two but we’re not sure any of it will be as cool as this!
