Watch This Aussie Valiant Charger Run 9s With A Turbo Chrysler Inline Six And 275 M/Ts On The Back

Like many of you, the first time I ever saw an Australian Valiant Charger was when John Farone shipped his car over from Oz to compete at drag week. None of us knew what the hell the thing was with guesses ranging from some sort of a modified Falcon to stuff that was way further off than that. As it turns out, these cars are about as legendary in Australia as the American Charger is here in the USA. The major difference? The hottest version of this car came with a six cylinder engine, an inliner that measured 265ci and carried the Hemi name if not quite the hemi structure. That engine is still loved and considered one of the best Australian muscle car engines ever. It made lots of torque and the good factory head meant some pretty serious airflow on the top end as well.

Now, take that package, upgrade the suspension to modern standards, upgrade the engine with 40+ years of knowledge and then turbocharge the bastard. What you end up with is a steel car that weighs close to 4,000lbs, pulls the front end on 275 tires and charges deep into the 9s at over 140mph all while making a sound that causes many V8 cars to run and hide. All engines have their own tone and that goes for six cylinders as well but this thing is truly pissed!

The engine runs on e85 and we best we know the car is street legal and driven in Australia which makes it even cooler. There are going to be a few Aussie drag week entries this year and cars are literally in shipping containers heading this way as we speak. We’ll talk more about them as the event gets closer but we love our brothers and sisters in the Southern Hemisphere because the spirit of hot rodding and drag racing is as strong there as it is here. We love the fact that this car still has the power plant that made it famous in the first place and that the engine has been wicked up with the modern technology we have today. A perfect mash up of new and old that really flies.
