Rob Coddens has long been known as one of the best guys in the country at making big power with the GM Duramax diesel engine. He had a series of ever quicker pickup trucks before he graduated to a cool El Camino and then finally the absolutely wild Nova you will see below. The car was on track to lay down a mid-8 second pass during this run when all hell broke loose right around 1000′, sending the car flying across the track and ultimately a hard side slapping impact with the wall.

While we have not been able to find a cause for the accident provided by Coddens or anyone who is familiar with the car, we can tell you that this thing is bad fast and pretty mean looking on the way down the track. The fiberglass hood has some real bends going on in it as the thing careens towards the finish line just from all the air up under it.

While the car leaves a little sideways, Coddens does a nice job of dragging it back into the groove and things seem to be going OK until the car makes a violent jog just before the 1,000ft cone and goes on its way across the strip. Coddens posted post crash photos on his FB page and it looks like a lot of work was ahead for the team after this. The body was really munched and we’re guessing that there were chassis repairs as well.

We hope he gets it fixed and grabs an 8-second slip with this weird and wild sledghammer of a car!

Nova is mine, not Robs! He was driving to gain points to qualify him for the world finals, plus in seat tuning. All back together and will be back on the 1320 in a few weeks.
