The city of Coffeyville, Kansas recently approved and allowed a group of enthusiasts to hold a legal street racing event in their city. A street with no side entrances was blocked off and competitors were allowed to run and eighth mile course on a flashlight start. The guys from Urban Hillbilly Action Video were on the scene and shooting (they are everywhere!) to capture the action at the event. There was no wreckage, no disastrous issues, and apparently hundreds of kids were there having fun and not making a problem for the police across town at other street racing haunts. While unconventional, we do not think that this is a bad idea at all and anything that puts people in a controlled environment where safety is at least being paid mind to is a win.
In this video we see a Chevy Malibu take on a Fox body Mustang. It is late and it is clear that there has been LOTS of runs down the course. These two guys are geared up. The starter brings both of them off, levels them up, and then pops backwards before flipping his flashlight on. The cars explode into the night and they are running hard and really close down the street. The Malibu moves around a little but overall both cars stay pretty well planted down the track and because there’s a camera at the starting line and the finish we get to see both ends of this one.
The title was no exaggeration. When these two cars get to the stripe there can’t be about an inch between them! We’re happy that the city was on board with this and that hot rodders came and supported the night. There are solutions to these problems out there and many of them are unconventional. This is one of them.
cool venue for sure
but in many areas there’s always the threat for lawsuits, noise, and in some locations the added pollution
i think its a great way for some small towns to start making some $
especially those with no tracks local to them
Coffeyville is where the James Gang attempted to rob 3 banks in one go as portrayed in probably the best Western ever made – The Long Riders. I think that the boys would have approved of this and long may it continue!
That was to close for me to call. So who won?
I’m the Owner of the red Mustang. We won by a couple inches
Congrats Will Hogan!
My wife and I were the finish line judges.Man that was a close one.I was sweating that one but after watching the video We called it correctly! Whew!!!
