Rocky Mountain Race Week 2016 has been one hell of an adventure for more than 200 racers, but Day 6 at Julesburg Dragstrip in Colorado was a little more than driver Troy Clark was expecting. His Ford Coupe is one hell of a machine and was leading the field in his class by a good margin when tragedy struck on his first run down the track for the day. When the car got loose and went into the other lane, Troy did a great job trying to keep it off his fellow racer and the grass but ultimately the car was on two wheels a couple times and then spinning before flipping six times. Luckily Troy’s cage, safety equipment, and track personnel were all doing their jobs and he walked away with no major injuries.
I’m sure he’ll be sore today, and his car is going to need a bit of work, but the cage held up amazingly well and he’s okay which is all that matters.
After cleaning up from the crash, racing resumed and a great day of racing was had by all. The heat was a definite challenge for some, and the Density Altitude hovered around 6000 feet most of the day which made horsepower hard to come by for some of these guys used to sea level conditions, but overall everyone seemed to make the most of it. In fact we saw several racers who made personal best passes which is always fun.
