I’ve been trying to wrap my brain around what is going on with this G-body Regal all day, and as I type this all I can come up with is, “torque and nitrous, every time.” The argument for or against large wheels on cars, I’m not getting into. But it’s good general knowledge that for the most part, you want a tire with some sidewall and some give on the back. Drag radial, slick, or a very good street tire will always work over a rubber band on a large wheel, right? Even the donk Impala wagon from last year’s Drag Week switched over to slicks on Caprice cop wheels when it was time to throw down. But not this Buick…nah, it’s ok, it’s got grip. And it’s got weight transfer like I haven’t seen in a drag car in quite some time. I honestly don’t know what’s going on here. I just know that when I see this Regal dig in, lift the front wheels off the ground and carry them as it moves out, that every last functioning synapse in my brain is firing off the exact same code: “WTF?!”
