There’s nothing cooler than cars that can pull the front wheels off the ground. Whether it is just enough to slide a piece of paper into the air gap or tall enough that a herd of elephants could pass under the nose untouched, a wheelie is a wheelie. There are more than a few elements that go into the who wheelstand viewing package. You have the lift off to start with, which differs by the mechanical makeup of the car. Is it a low hp car with tons of gear in the back? That’s more of a popping motion. If you have big horsepower and are trying to apply it in a controlled manner you can get the gentle raise and sustained distance situation rolling and there are other styles as well.
The true mark of a great wheelstand is the landing and how the driver handles it. Some guys freak and pull their foot off the gas causing carnage and insanity to break out. Other guys refuse to lift until the car is all upset and weird. Those are not the ones that end cleanly most times. Lastly there is the driver who knows the car and the sensation of carrying the tires. That is the guy who comes out looking like a boss because he can pull the wheels, carry the thing out, and then set it down pillow soft and power the car down the track. That is the guy who you want to get the flying lessons from because he’ll teach you the right way to handle it.
The bottom line is that wheelstands may not be the most efficient way to get down the track but they provide a visual thrill that is impossible to look away from. These things put butts in seats and lots of the wheelstands in this video were shot at Byron Dragway in Illinois which is home to the world power wheelstanding championships, a contest that is designed and built around the craziest wheelies you have ever seen. These are 10 of the better wheel/bumper stands you’ll see and the cars that are doing them are all BangShifty as well!

What a gas to watch these cars.
Have to make the trek to see them in person.
