(By Jason Mazzotta) – We have all seen so many times a nitrous powered pro modified car launching off the starting line, header flames beginning to shoot out of the pipes and then boom, a nitrous backfire sending another hood scoop into orbit and hundred pieces. While it is exciting for the fans, the nitrous explosions are expensive and inconvenient for the drivers who now have to fix or more than likely replace the scoop before they make another run. That is true until now, which is where Tim McAmis comes into the picture with an interesting and possibly game changing design for nitrous racers.
Tim McAmis is a long time and extremely accomplished race car builder from Missouri. He has built everything from the first nitrous pro mods to the 3’s in the eighth, and 5’s in the quarter, as well as blown NHRA cars, and lightweight PDRA cars. Along with a resume full of Hall of Fame caliber race cars, he also designs and sells parts, including his newest Burst Panel Hood Scoop design. The idea of the burst panel scoop is to help preserve the hood scoop during a nitrous backfire/explosion. Just like that of all other burst panels, the small section on the top of the scoop will blow out and release all the pressure that would have blown the scoop off the car and into pieces. It is yet another great design from McAmis that will be interesting to see put into action on the exciting nitrous pro mods.
A burst panel?
I could do with one of them on me pants when wor lass is doing her dressing up routine with the feather dusters and axle grease!
The photos make it look so big that you could almost turn it into a Bonneville streamliner – unlike wor lasse’s lumpen body….
There’s gunna be alot of mad drag racing photographers now
Uh, yeah, we’ve been doing them for several years now…on our airboxes that go under cowl scoops.
