(By Jason Mazzotta) – Accidents are a part of racing, but there are always crashes that happen and really put everything into perspective. This is one of them. At a mud race in Transfer, Pennsylvania a Jeep paired up with a pickup truck and each were looking to make strong runs and turn on the win light. Both hammered off the link and then things went wrong. Quickly the scene turned into an accident reminiscent of Kenny Koretsky and Bruce Allen where the Jeep in the right lane was out of the gate first, lost control and got t-boned by the truck playing catch up. As they traveled through the finish line both throttles sounded wide open as the two vehicles tumbled, intertwined in and out of vision in the shutdown area as a cloud of dust and grass fill the air.
As a racer myself, it is hard not to get goose bumps when seeing an accident as intense as this and is quickly obvious that everyone there that day was feeling the same way. From the announcer pleading for everyone to stay back as he knew the violence of the wreck, to the families who are emotional and undoubtedly shaken up, as well as the drivers who share an embrace after being thankful for walking away from their unforgettable moment. Yes, these guys literally walked away.
As the dust settled the post-accident footage of the wreckage is like looking at the aftermath of a town destroyed by a storm. Parts and pieces all over the place, some not even close to the two vehicles. As the crew is picking up the pieces and everyone is looking over the carnage, the heavy machinery is making its way out to remove what is left of the vehicles and two drivers have a moment they will never forget and a story that’ll be tough to tell for years to come.
