So Wrong, So Right: The Turbocharged V8 Ford Focus Drag Car

So Wrong, So Right: The Turbocharged V8 Ford Focus Drag Car

I’m a total sucker for a front-wheel-drive car that has been converted to drive the proper set of wheels. Ask me about my fascination with any small-block powered Dodge Daytona, or the myriad of RWD-swapped Pro Street GM front-drivers from the 1980s. All day long, you’d better believe that I’d happily drive one. Four cylinders and front wheel drive might be fine for the masses, but dammit, if you’re here and reading this site, you have to have the desire for something more, right?

Of course you do. And in all seriousness, one of the most conversion-ready vehicles out there for grabs is the first-generation Ford Focus. Unlike a home-done conversion or even the Mopar Performance K-frame swap kit for Daytonas, Ford Racing sourced out an actual concept study to Kugel Components to see if you could cram a V8 into a Ford Focus. They did, and you can now order up a full swap kit that will fit a Windsor V8 or a Mod Motor into a used Focus for a cost. A standard 5.0L in a car that weighs in under 3,000 pounds normally is going to be a riot. Now…turbocharge the living hell out of it, beef up the suspension and cage the sucker.

Can you think of a better use of a Ford Focus? Unless you’re a rally racer, we doubt it.
