Hunting For Christmas Gifts In The Mecum Kansas City Auction: Two Fords And A Buick!

Hunting For Christmas Gifts In The Mecum Kansas City Auction: Two Fords And A Buick!

If there is one thing I truly loathe about the Christmas holiday, it’s being asked what I want for Christmas. I don’t want to be the guy that asks for the extraordinary or expensive things, but I’m a car guy who has a streak for playing music…expensive comes with the territory, unfortunately. So I usually shrug and see what happens. I’m grateful for whatever I get, but let’s be real for a second: sure, you were happy to get Hot Wheels as a kid, but you were still jealous when you saw the kid up the street who got a go-kart from Santa. Just because I’m happy with what I get doesn’t mean that I don’t dream of what I honestly desire, and that’s why I went digging through Mecum Auction’s upcoming spread for the Kansas City auction that kicks off on November 30th, 2017. I found a few goodies that looked tempting enough, and amazingly not one Mopar really did it for me this time around! Check out my choices below, or do some shopping for yourself by checking out the auction HERE.

1. 1977 Ford F-350 Custom ramp truck

YES. Oh, sweet mother, yes…a work truck that has a purpose! I don’t care if the 460 drinks like soldiers at a barracks party and that the C6 will limit my top speed to a wound-out 65 MPH, all I need to know is that there are storage boxes, a 10,000 pound winch that is brand new, enough room for family and/or friends, and the knowledge that I can drag home just about anything I want to on the back.

2. 1970 Buick GS455

Normally, I try to stay away from the typical musclecars, but I can’t help myself when it comes to this Buick GS. Out of the 1970  A-bodies, the Gran Sport just might be my favorite because it’s so understated. Two small, functional scoops, a bit of badging, and enough torque to rotate the earth courtesy of the 455ci mill underhood. No stripes, no wing, no barely-there mufflers…a mature hot rod that had no trouble taking the brash young runt out and giving them a thorough spanking in the stoplight drags.

3. 1969 Ford Galaxie XL

Speaking of mature hot rods, this XL is another way to scratch that itch. There is pretty much no information on what this car is about other than what the photos tell you, so all I know is that it’s an automatic, the interior is sweet, the vinyl roof works here, and that my distaste for polished Torque-Thrusts is still present and accounted for. But a wheel choice isn’t going to turn me of on the whole package. It’s a pleasant bronze/rose-ish color, a guaranteed big-block cruiser that, depending on engine, could actually hustle the weight around nicely. Plus, it satisfies the big Ford thing I appreciate.

Ditto on those two fine vehicles!

Bryan, you are not alone with a distaste for polished Torque-Thrust wheels. Would rather have Mavnum 500’s on that Galaxie.

Tastefully refined for your inner Sasquatch. I like the Buicks but all the A-bodies that iteration look like a fat lady on roller skates without wheels that bring the tires closer to the fender lip.

think of it as all the OEM designed room you’d need for whatever wheel tire package you could dream up…..

My buddy bought his dad’s 77 Coupe Deville at that auction last year. His father bought the car new and it surfaced there.
