Our pal Tommy Lee Byrd is an awesome writer and photographer. During the 2018 drag racing season he decided to up the ante and shoot video and many of the events he attended. As Tommy gets around his native Tennessee and many of the strips in the greater Southeast, he’s got a lot of footage from a bunch of different drag strips here. Tommy kept this one pretty tightly cut, showing many different runs and all of them have something a little different going on.
There are big wheelies, lane changing weirdness, a wreck or two, tire smoke, and even some fun on the street burning tires to the cords. This is one of those videos that illustrates an adage that lives well in the drag racing world. Those words are “If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.” With the amount of small tire and radial stuff you’ll see here, even a casual viewer will get the message that running loads of horsepower on those small tires, even with all of the advancements of 2018 is a tough, tough thing to do and to get right time and time again.
As the 2019 drag racing season closes in, this peek at 2018’s craziness has us up on the tire to get to the strip ourselves!
just can’t fix stupid………these guys should change professions. be a politician. and we would get the same results.
