York US30 Muscle Car Madness Coverage: A Drool Worthy Dream Collection Of Straight Line History

(Photos by Joe Grippo) – We’ve been working our way around the York US30 Muscle Car Madness show in images for the last few days but here’s the payoff pitch. This is the most insane collection of cool drag race cars we have ever smashed into one photo gallery. No fooling on this one, it is an all timer’s collection of both legendary cars and legendary names. From Buddy Ingersoll’s turbocharged Pinto to the Comet Cyclone of Dyno Don Nicholson perched atop a period perfect Ford ramp truck, this collection of photos will give you sense of why this show is so popular. It is rare to see one of these cars at an event let alone ALL of them sitting within feet of each other. Ken Montgomery’s legendary hemi Barracuda, all kinds of old pro stocks, and more stuff that is just dripping history right there on the floor.

Drag racers are lucky in the fact that most of the old cars that people loved to watch and cheer on have survived the test of time and if they have not been restored, they are at least known to exist. Old dragsters that have been front and back halved several times but still have the same center section that a famous driver sat in or maybe a gasser that was turned into a street rod and then has been put back “right” into race trim are not uncommon stories these days. Cars still live in barns and when they are dragged out the world is a little richer for it. This is a collection of the best stuff you could imagine seeing at a show. That’s no exaggeration. So good!

Faubel’s car is the perfect lead off for this. Dominant car in it’s day, as was Bud for several years. He flew to Detroit to pick that car up, his “one of 12” factory altered wheelbase FX cars, and DROVE it home to Pennsylvania! This was before there was an interstate system connecting them directly.
Those were the days, boys and girls, those were the days!
