Wild: The $1.3-Million Koenigsegg Agera Has A 600hp 3-Banger Engine And 1,100hp Of Electrical Backup

(Words by Tom Lohnes – Photos by the manufacturer) – There’s a car for everything. If you need a cheap, fast, fun to drive car, there’s a Subaru WRX. If you need a fast sedan then there’s a Charger Hellcat. If you need a hypercar, there’s a Koenigsegg Agera. What if you combine the Hellcat and the Agera? Well, if you do, then you get this. This is the Koenigsegg Gemera, a $1.3 Million Dollar, 1,700 horsepower sedan powered by a 3-Cylinder engine.

Yes, this sedan that does 60-miles per hour in 2.4 seconds has a tiny 2.0 Liter 3-cylinder engine, and happens to be the most powerful car for sale on Earth. The engine alone in this car makes 600 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft of torque, but is aided by an 1,100hp electric system which boosts power to a mind boggling 1,700 horsepower and 1,200 lb.-ft of torque. The Gemera isn’t exactly a lightweight though, due to its 4-seat configuration and heavy batteries it comes in at 4,072 pounds. Due to its tiny engine, the Egg also does 42 MPG in comfort mode, so at least you aren’t adding too much to your $1.3 million price tag with gas. Unlike the BMW i8, which hides its exhaust pipes under its spaceship-style body, the Gemera embraces it’s not-so-great exhaust note by having two pipes spouting directly out of the back of the car.

The design of the Gemera is very sleek. Its long, swoopy body fits well for a hybrid vehicle, and follows the brand’s current design method. The interior is very minimalistic. There is a strange design of 4 cupholders in the backseat, and amazing that area has the exact amount of legroom that the front seats have. No one needs this car, but I sure know everyone wants one.

There are a couple unanswered questions here. Did they actually get the Freevalve system ready to work in a production car? And how are they going to build a three cylinder engine that size that doesn’t vibrate like a paint shaker?

    1. Skeptical

Them choosing a 3 cylinder engine is just odd………………… (smirk)

I mean it’s not an econo shit box. I wonder what the advantage was that made them choose 3 cylinders over 4.

Actually I bet it was packaging. The 3 cylinder was probably chosen due to space constraints in their design. Just a guess though.

  3. Captain Obvious?

This has to be a joke. This is information is about the Koenigsegg GEMERA, not the Agera, which has a twin turbo V8. It literally says on the back of the car GEMERA…

I\’m guessing just because of the noise. If you watch Christian von koenigsegg talk about it on YouTube he mentions the sound quite a bit
