Racing In The Rain: Watch This 1958 Sadler-Chevrolet Mk3 Attack The Road Course In The Wetness

If you are a race car driver in England, it seems like you should be pretty versed in wet competition, right? The country is known for being slightly more than damp at times and racing in the rain is part of that program. In this awesome Goodwood video we have a 1958 Sadler-Chevrolet Mk3 being expertly driven in some pretty ugly conditions.

There are a couple of things here that are impressive. The first is the control shown by driver Julian Mazjub. This dude is not pussyfooting around the track, he’s giving this car the oats despite the fact he’s in what looks to be a pretty driving rainstorm.

The second thing is the fact that he’s doing it in an open cockpit car! It isn’t like the thing has windshield wipers or even a full windshield. Nope, the driver is wide open with a bubble looking face shield with the water blasting him right in the dome. The third thing that we love is the fact that this car is a very interesting and rare piece. Canadian Bill Sadler built these cars after a trip to England in the early 1950s inspired a love of road racing.

Powered by Chevrolet small block engines, they used pretty advanced suspension systems for their day with equipment like DeDion rear axles. The bodies were hand made and these were very low production units. This particular car was one of the later examples as Sadler produced his last racer in 1961.

Listen to the small block work and watch the driver wrestle this sucker in a subtle way as he gets drenched!
