This 1960 Mercury Colony Park Station Wagon Is Probably The Nicest One In The World

There are certain cars that stand as reminders of just how bad ass Detroit was in the golden age of the car business. The 1960 Mercury Colony Park station wagon we found for sale on eBay is amazing. The shapes, the colors, the engine, the look, the interior, the wood, just all of it is a show stopper. The seller claims that this may be the nicest one in the world and how the heck are we supposed to refute that? The car was recently restored and it is better in virtually every way than it was when the family that bought it drove off the lot in 1960.

In many ways, this car personifies 1960. It was a hopeful time in this country. The era of JFK and the dawn of a decade that would change and challenge the country in ways many people never saw coming. At its humble start, the 1960s were this wagon. America was this wagon. Big, kind of crazy, over the top, able to go anywhere and of virtually anything. Amazing days, those.

Powered by the short lived 383ci MEL engine, this thing makes right around 300hp depending on what carb it has on the top. There’s plenty of horsepower and a Cruise-O-Matic transmission to shove the whole works down the road.

Yes, the interior looks like some sort of Vegas whore house gone awry but we still love it. Trying to create this look from scratch would be lame but seeing it as God and Mercury intended it is kind of magical. This thing is awesome.

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

Not with that hideous fake wood vinyl it isn’t!

Either get rid of it or substitute it for veneers of real wood bordered by polished maple.
