To begin, let me just say that I truly love the B-body wagons of the 1980s made by GM. Whether we’re talking Pontiac Safari, the Buick Le Sabre, the Chevy Caprice, or the Olds Custom Cruiser, they are cool and well styled. I have always wanted one with a blower engine in it and massive meats on the back pro street style. I’m sure people love them more than me out there, but this 1989 Pontiac Safari may be the clearest indication yet that we have all lost our damned minds when it comes to cars and what stuff is worth. This thing is listed for $59,000 dollars. It has close to 70,000 miles, it has a Chevy 350 swapped into it, it has a nice interior, clean frame, and decent paint with flawless simulated woodgrain, but good gravy. Is this really where we are on stuff these days?!
According to the Standard Catalog of American cars, 5,146 of these wagons were made in 1989. That makes them reasonably rare when we look at other models in the Pontiac lineup. For instance, they made 46,000 Firebirds. Packing an Olds 307 from the factory, the 350 Chevy is certainly a move in the right direction, truck manifolds and all. The cars weighted in at 4,109lbs from the factory and this one does not seem to be too highly optioned. If you got the towing package you got the 3.31 rear axle otherwise you got a 2.97 or a 2.84 ratio. Clearly these babies were designed for cruising and that’s what they did the best. It also came with a four speed automatic.
This is a really nice car and a wonderful example of the last era of the big wagon in the true American tradition but to list it for $59,000 seems not just crazy but full on institutionally insane.
Are we wrong here?
Beyond nuts. If it’s what you want (unless it just has to be a white poncho in a box) go find one that’s straight then upgrade whatever you want and you will likely be in it for far far less.
Misplaced decimal point. More like $5900.00 and that would be a stretch in my opinion.
Not hatin’, just being realistic.
Agreed. Just because it is old and in good condition, doesn’t make it valuable.
Get the net.
dude here still a free country looks very clean here,,,, that’s worth something,,not,,,,,, saying he will get it he can try??? you can walk away OH by the way any one notice how many cup holders?????
Just put the bong down.

Gateway Classic Cars and Dispensary.
look at the source, Gateway Classics is over priced on EVERYTHING!!
It’s pretty high! But the “3 pedal” 89 Pontiac safari with a LS swap and 5 speed manual. Was listed for 59k too. However the 3 pedal car is famous and track proven. I have A 89 safari which is identical to the 3 pedal car. Mine is a 350 swap that i paid 1500 for last year. Yes fifteen hundred. I had it painted and replace the chrome and “wood”. I spent 15k on it. It’s worth 10k now. I still need to redo the interior. These can go for around 20k in great shape with just a bone stock engine and low miles.. The 80s car are becoming very VERY desirable. Plus Anything from the 80s with wood grain is quickly snatched up. A Jeep Grand Wagoner can sell for around 100k.
This particular car is not a perfect original example. It has the wrong wood grain on it. It should be oak with white oak trim not that mahogany color. Some of the chrome is missing. The wheel are not period correct. The condition of the interior can be a major contributor to a high price as these cars were family haulers. Kids can be very had on interiors. Most wagon interiors are riddled with the battle scars from their pint sized passengers. This car is pristine inside.
The probable reality is someone found this car on Facebook market place for 2000 . May have been owned by an older person that kept it in the garage. it probably already had the 350 as 307 was inadequate for towing. A good deal of people swapped them to pull their campers and such. I’ll bet the owner died. Their kids hated it and sold it for cheap to cash out. Someone snatched it up, As i did mine, And now they think it’s work 59k. In reality It’s worth 15000k
