Yesterday we showed you a bunch of the REALLY old road racing stuff that was competing at the 2015 Rolex Monterey Historic Motorsports Reunion so today we’re moving the slide rule up through the years some to more BangShifty territory and iron. This collection of photos takes us back on the track and on said track there are lots of late 1950s and early 1960s Corvettes along with Mustang GT350s competing and ripping around the corners. Yes, there are some other cool and swoopy foreign cars out there but the stuff we really enjoy looking at is the American iron.

When you think about the Corvette and how it nearly died on the vine trying to be a poor knock off of a European sports car before GM sacked up and jammed a good motor into the front of it really makes you appreciate the Corvettes of today which maintain an incredible standard at a “reasonable” price. The GT350 Mustang is another example of building a car like it should have been from the start and Carroll Shelby gets the credit for taking the idea of specializing a Mustang to the forefront. Now there are hundreds of companies, shops, and outfits that make your Mustang road race, drag race, and overall perform better.
