(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – Cynthiana is located Northeast of Lexington on highway 27. I think either the Hot Rod Power Tour or Drag Week came through there some years ago. People come from all over to visit this once-a-year event that somehow keeps getting scheduled the same weekend as the famous Somernites cruise in Somerset, KY. Even with that conflict the Rod Run continues to grow. There is a dedicated cast of volunteers that work long hours to bring this massive event to this otherwise mostly-quiet community. 3M and Toyota are the two largest employers in the area and the city is famous for its ties to the Walking Dead television series. The South Fork of the Licking River runs through it and made national news with the severe flooding that enveloped the Midwest in 1997. The drive to/from there is scenic regardless of which path you choose. I have no idea what draws folks, but it does and the local merchants and townsfolk are appreciative. Shops open and most run special deals and offers just for this event. It’s a win-win for everyone.
In this collection we have a few to draw your attention:
Yellow 80s Olds Cutlass with an injection hat sitting on a tunnel ram and steamrollers out back. 90s gold.
’69 Pontiac Trans Am. Not stock. All-aluminum big-block, 6speed, widened wheels, pro-touring suspension, rollbar, brake cooling ducts, etc. Want.
Dig the groovy graphics on the ’69 Z/28.
Herbie and friend.
There was a row of show cars which included replicas of the Supernatural Impala, Jurassic Park Wrangler, Falfa’s ’55 and the Graffiti ’55. We were enjoying the truck items for the Supernatural car.
Enjoy.
