2017 NSRA Nationals Coverage: Here’s A First Gallery Of Photos From The Monster Yearly Show

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – First off – an apology.  I have been in a funk for months now and have not been going to as many event nor have I been getting the articles together in a timely fashion.  I am sorry and will try to do better going forward. (Hey man, this is perfect timing to keep off the winter doldrums! – ed.)

With that out of the way – we attended three straight days this year with both myself and my son Taylor driving our cars.   It’s first for me to have him following along in his own car and it makes me somewhat proud that folks pay more attention to his car than mine.  In all fairness his does have more character.  Ours are the blue ’64 Chevy II sedan next to my son’s frost blue ’65 Bel-Air.  I don’t often plug our stuff so don’t beat me up too much over it.  Our first day starts off at Papa John’s stadium for registration.  IT’s a nice ride up the elevator to a massive space with short lines and helpful folks.  Outside there is no doubt this is one of the largest participant events there is.  For this one over 10,000 cars were in attendance.  Some highlights in this gallery:

White AMC 390 Ambassador riding on Auto Wheel Spyders.  Oh Yeah.

Super-cool Falcon drop-top with killer paint.

I hear people complain about ‘belly-button’ Deuces.  Well, it is IMHO the finest-looking vehicle ever so I don’t care.  Still haven’t seen one I wouldn’t snap a photo of.  For a taste of something different is this red three-window with a blown hemi and three pedals.  How can there be too much of this.

Two-tone Ford long-bed looked right, smelled right, and sounded right.  The 70s all over again.

Tommy Lee Byrd’s ’64 more-door Malibu made the trek carrying Tommy’s photo gear so he could grab pictures for his employer, Coker Tire.  Some folks have it rough.

Enjoy.
