The 2017 UMI Performance Cruise-In And Autocross Was One For The Books!

The 2017 UMI Performance Cruise-In And Autocross Was One For The Books!

(Photos and Words by Tim King) Held in the historic town of Philipsburg, PA this little town surprised us as they put on quite the show! The UMI Performance Cruise-In and Autocross was held on a Friday and Saturday, and we weren’t disappointed by the event, the action, or the attendance. Even though this was hosted by UMI Performance, you could bring any ride with parts from any suspension company and they were all represented here.

The show was broken up between the autocross, open house and cruise-in. Starting off Friday bright and early at the local airport, the autocross was in full effect. The course was on the airstrip, providing tons of room for a wicked course with beautiful views of the forest and hills all around. You could almost say it was a double course, as the times were well over a minute, which is double the regular amount of time on your average autocross course. The Autocross Guys ran the autocross and had the entire gauntlet of obstacles in the way providing a fun and challenging course for all skill levels.

After a full day of racing, everybody headed to the facility of UMI Performance. They had their doors open for people to wander around and check out all the production and some neat cars they had tucked away for future product development. They definitely stand behind their Made In The USA claims.

Saturday started up bright and early and proved to be another great day of racing. More cars showed up on Saturday for even more racing. Even with the long laps, racers were able to get at least six laps a day in. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate on Saturday and a big storm rolled through early in the afternoon ending the fun.

Everybody loaded up and headed over to the local bowling alley where the cruise-in was being held at. The autocross folks parked and stared at their cars for a change and talked shop. By this point the weather cleared up and the locals started rolling in to fill out the parking lot.

A little bit of everything showed up at the car show as well. We have to say we expected a pretty small show because Philipsburg is a pretty small town. Boy were we wrong! There was a huge turnout with over 300 cars coming out, old and new alike. We loved the action of the autocross, but the car show was the perfect way to relax and keep the fun going.

We are sure glad we came, because we are already looking forward to the 2018 UMI Performance Cruise In and Autocross!
