(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – By the time the droplets of liquid stopped falling from the clouds we were getting pretty hungry. Good thing this year the Hullabaloo had three food vendors plus a couple others offering non-diabetic-friendly treats. I grabbed some smoked BBQ pork with some of the best potato salad I’ve ever had. Pretty good grub even for a dine-in restaurant.
We rolled up on the scene around 9:40 AM. The event is supposed to start at 10:00 AM. It was already nearly full. Two happening at this event I did not get to witness was the Miss Hullabaloo contest and the downhill, gravity car races. I usually capture some of this stuff and I was out of place for each. Let me remind you I was still undergoing cancer treatment then and was moving slow. That’s my story/excuse and I’m sticking to it.
In this collection of images:
Jerry North’s blown, blue Willys coupe. This isn’t Jerry’s only Willys. I know he has a straight-axle pickup and Gene Fulton’s stick-shift gasser.
A parking lot was dedicated to off road stuff and it was full of Jeeps and surprisingly, a bunch of Toyota FJ-units. Some pretty cool stuff the Toyotas have a very healthy and devoted following.
Matt Cox has other cool rides, but his newest ride is this blue GMC window-less van that he’s put wheels/tires on, cleaned up, and found some really cool RC Cola graphics to liven the thing up. He’s taken it everywhere this summer and this is my first opportunity to see it in person. The banana Moon-pie on the dash definitely put the icing on it.
The blue Cadillac de Ville is just pure class. It looks right, sits right, and the color does this long-by-wide barge appear almost sporty. Like it.
After these the clouds broke, the sun came out, and it got humider. That’s a real word. Come back for more.
