(By Tom Lohnes) – Professor Gordon Murray is a man of many things. Having designed many Formula 1 cars, and the car nearly everyone heralds as the single best automobile ever made, the Mclaren F1, it is safe to say that he has accomplished quite a few things in his life. Just last year, his own car company just unveiled their first car, the T.50, and now they’ve done it again. Meet the all-new Gordon Murray Automotive T.33.
Slotting below the utterly gorgeous T.50, The T.33 is what I like to think of as the modern-day version of the mighty F1. Using the same 3.9-liter Cosworth V12 that is in the T.50, the T.33 is detuned a little bit, but it still makes a mighty 607 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque. Even though the power is quite impressive, the real shocker about this masterpiece of an engine is that it makes peak power at 9,000 RPM, with about 2,000 more ahead of you before you have to shift. Speaking of shifting, the British company Xtrac supplies the world’s lightest supercar transmission for the T.33, weighing in at only 180 pounds. The T.33 has two transmission options, a paddle-shift unit, and a 6-speed manual for the enthusiasts. The rear wheels are driven.
You might’ve thought that Professor Murray had his peak while designing the F1, right? Well, you would be incorrect. With the T.50 being essentially a modernized F1 in styling, the T.33 takes its own route, and looks even more beautiful than its bigger brother. The exterior is smooth, sleek, and aerodynamic, and the interior is very minimalist and modern at the same time. Also, if the T.50 and its center driving petition are too weird for you, the T.33 offers a more traditional outboard setup.
According to Gordon Murray Automotive themselves, the T.33 is actually meant to be a daily driver. I know your doubts, but this thing has a surprising amount of cargo space for such a small car, and its suspension is tuned towards on-road driving compared to the track setup the T.50 and T.50S were running. No more than 100 will be made, so if you want to daily one of these things you may want to order one quick.
Obviously, the GMA T.33 is not meant for the masses, it is a design exercise. But it is quite a pretty one, and by the looks and sounds of it, it may just be the purest driving experience money can buy. Speaking of money, the T.33 is quite a bit, starting at approximately $1,750,000 USD.
Should he ever decide to give one of these to an undeserving nobody, Lord let it be me. Now where’s that damn drooling icon?
