So what are the elements that go into a good road racing battle? Good drivers, evenly matched cars, a good course, and others right? This video has all of that and it is delivered in a shockingly awesome package that proves there’s more than one way to skin the road racing cat. What do we mean? This video from 2014 shows the Australian Muscle Car Masters series Mini vs Mustang race. That’s right, classic Minis and classic Mustangs. Tiny little cars with fours bangers and larger V8 powered steel from America sharing the same course and racing for the same cheered flag. This is not a race where the Fords are racing the Fords and the Minis the Minis, this is truly mano y mano style road course fisticuffs and you will love it.
The dynamic between the two cars is perfect in every way. The Minis can run the course virtually flat out, having to lift very little and brake even less. The much more powerful and heavy Mustangs may be able to lay waste to the little cars on the straights but when it comes to setting up and executing corners, the Minis own their asses and own there asses HARD. The result is a dice the likes of which you will rarely ever see, especially out of cars so completely different yet ultimately almost dead equal in overall performance.
You can fast forward to three minutes in if you want to jump right into the meat of the action but we kind of prefer watching the whole thing as it shapes up. This was obviously clipped from a TV broadcast or something because it is a very well shot and professionally done video. Does anyone do anything like this in the USA?
