There’s nothing wrong with a Triumph TR4, I mean they are a cool enough little car, but they aren’t something I’d ever thought I’d care to own. That is until seeing this little V8-powered monster. It’s got a small block Ford in it and I bet it’s an absolute riot to drive.

This is the car that Carroll Shelby should have built. After building the prototype of the Sunbeam Tiger he got left at the alter by the parent company Rootes, who subcontracted instead with Jensen to build that British-American icon that went on to be called the “poor man’s Cobra”. The Triumph TR4 is by far the better platform to shoehorn a Ford V8 into and with the proven on track success the TR4 enjoyed in SCCA racing it has the superior chassis as well. This one was built right with a 5.0 H.O. block with upgraded rotating assembly and high performance top end. Carburation was chosen and headers attached. A Ford rear end is fitted and the chassis reinforced; the suspension upgraded front and rear. A T5 5-speed transmission with a short throw shift kit installed. Wheels are borrowed from a TR6. Autometer gauges were swapped. This little monster fires right up and has a roar that gives a strong hint of what’s ahead for the driver. Everything works as it should and the car delivers that scary fast impression you can only find in the likes of a Cobra. Rowing trough the gears is like, well having a tiger by the tail! This car is not for the faint of heart. Overall the car is very well executed and the interior is nice and tidy. A thick binder detailing the build accompanies the sale.
